In our travels, we have found many instances of porg migration. We’ve adopted some porgs as mascots, rescued others from dangerous habitats and hazardous scenarios. Those we cannot keep, we relocate to more suitable situations, depending on their natures. The more amiable ones may qualify for adoption as ‘forever pets’. Those that are particularly curious and trainable can even become ‘service birds’. Those that are more cranky or shy often find placement in a handful of wildlife refuges, mostly in the Outer Rim, though there are also a few on Terra.
Although these beakless birds originated on Ahch-To, ‘murders’ of porgs have since been spotted near starports in other parts of the known universe. They probably arrived on farflung planets through unsanctioned travel aboard various starships. They are successfully nesting and reproducing in several locales, often to the dismay of local authorities.
Biologists have identified that they are born as pairs of porglets. They live in soft nests, fashioned with fur and hair. Indigenous nests can be found on coastal cliffs. Nests of migrating porgs may be found in more accessible, often inconvenient locations, such as ship’s corridors or engineering compartments.
Some nests are even woven from cables and fibers used in shipboard electronics. The birds also ingest these wires. The babies are usually well-fed, so mothers and fathers have creatively accessed nearby food sources, branching out from fish and crustaceans to other available fodder on ships and planets.
The crew of the Galactic Starcruiser Halcyon traditionally warned passengers to control the behavior of any domesticated porgs, since stowaway porgs have been known to wreak havoc with ship’s wiring. Reportedly passengers enjoy hunting for them.
Resistance folk such as Rey Skywalker and Luke Skywalker, who encountered the creatures on their homeworld, were quite familiar with porg curiosity, since their behaviors created some risky moments. Those same antics followed the porgs on other illicit instellar travels, and have since become the bane (and entertainment) of many crews. Porgs have also been reported on the Millenium Falcon, and have traveled with Rebel heroes Chewbacca and Leia Organa, pirates such as Hondo Ohnaka, and Resistance crewmembers such as Rose Tico.
Since porgs often end up in inappropriate environments, sometimes they must be retrieved and re-homed. Obi and Oma are committed, during our travels, to the rescue and re-homing of porgs.
What happens to the porgs we extricate from unsustainable situations? Some have been trained as therapy porgs. Some are adopted as companion porgs. Others are placed in porg sanctuaries, where they have access to native species of fibers and grasses such as blue moss, proximity to oceans, and nutritious plenitude of fish and crabs.
